Hello Friends,
We hope that February finds you all well. The members of the Enhance team, both in the US and in Ethiopia, are busying implementing our three programs and working on ways to expand our impact. We’ve been on the ground for one year now, and we couldn’t be happier with our progress so far! Thank you so much for accompanying us on this journey.
The girls and young women in our program have just started their second academic term for this school year. They all continue to work hard and appreciate the opportunity to learn and engage with their peers in a classroom. In Addis Ababa, the rainy season and cold weather are over and the weather is warm and dry. This makes life much easier for our participants: the roads aren’t muddy, the houses aren’t cold and there is plenty of natural light for the girls and young women to do homework. In Addis Ababa, this time of year has the warmth of spring and the energy of summer!
Last week, we hosted a community gathering for 250 people, including all participants of our Kinship Care and Rising Autonomy programs. This is an opportunity for our participants to spend time with their mentors, peers, families and local members of the Enhance team. Building healthy, supportive relationships and developing a safety net help sustain the efforts of our programs and sustain the individuals as they navigate the pathway out of poverty.
We remain deeply concerned about the drought that is impacting parts of Ethiopia. Our participants are indirectly impacted: lower crop yields have increased the prices of food commodities. Last week our participants expressed gratitude to you, our donors, for enabling them to supplement their diet at this difficult time.
The team is discussing a way that we can respond to the drought. We’ll keep you updated. For now, here is our latest newsletter. Onward!
